Back in April, I was super stoked on submitting my work to literary contests. I did, in fact, enter the super-short fiction contest I was eyeing up, as well as a poetry contest and, honestly, the wait is kind of eating at me.
Or not kind of.
It is. It’s eating at me.
I checked my submittable this morning, because I really just wanted to know rather than not, but the short-short fiction submission is listed as ‘In Progress’ (the website says news will come in July) and the other prize I entered for (poetry, not prose) also won’t announce until July.
Submitting my work was the important part. I needed to start getting my writing ‘out there’. Waiting to hear back is much harder than I expected it to be. I thought I could just send it and forget it, but, as I work on other things, I keep thinking ‘what if I just missed the information’ and ‘I just want to know, ugh’.
No news today, though. No news likely for another two or three weeks.
I guess, until then, I’ll just… wait?
(If you have any tips on how to manage the buzz in the back of my brain that comes from wondering–as well as the questioning of what it means or if I’ll even hear back at all or if I’m a garbage poet and terrible original-fiction writer–please let me know. I’m open to tips/advice.)
(ALSO, look at me, posting twice in one week!)
